Login Functions

When you start Elexio Database you must login for security reasons.  Your system administrator should have given you a user name and password.

You can check the box to Remember your password so that you don't have to enter it each time. This option is not available to Elexio Database for Mac users.

Connection Options

Click the Options button to select your connection to the database.  There are three types of database Connections:

  1. By default you are connected Online directly to the Elexio Database servers over the internet.  All changes you make are immediately reflected in the database for all other users who are also connected online.  If you are experiencing slow performance in Elexio Database you may want to consider working Offline.

  2. You can select to work Offline which connects you to a copy of your database on your personal computer.  This is an option that requires Elexio to setup your Elexio Database to be available to work offline.  If you are unsure if you have this feature activated or you would like to request to activate the offline capabilities, please email us at support@elexio.com.  If you have never worked offline, then the first time you select this connection Elexio Database will have to install the Elexio Database Sync Agent as well as a local copy of your database on your computer.  This could take up to 30 minutes.  Please allow this process to finish uninterrupted.  You can do other things while it is installing, but do not interrupt this process.  Be patient.  It will take a while, but it only has to do this 1 time.  Also, your church's account needs to be setup for offline access.  We will do this by request.   See more info below.

  3. There is a third option which we call a Network connection whereby your church can have a copy of the database on your local server.  Everyone in your office can connect to the local server for fast performance.  Your server will then sync with our server over the internet as frequently as every hour.  If you feel your church would benefit from this type of system, please contact us.

Working Offline

Working offline is a great option.  It's one of the huge technological innovations of the Elexio Database system.  If you decide that you'd like to work offline most of the time, then you need to understand some basic concepts about how this works:

  1. Your offline copy of the database will synchronize with the main database on the Elexio Database servers automatically in the background whenever you are connected to the Internet at set intervals regardless if you are running Elexio Database at the time.

  2. Automatic synchronizations happen in the background automatically by default any time your computer is on and connected to the internet.

  3. Any changes you make to the database will not be shared UNTIL you synchronize!

  4. Synchronization is bidirectional, meaning that all changes you make will be shared with everyone else and vice versa.

  5. While you are working offline, if you change a field that someone else also changed while they were offline, the first person to sync will win the conflict. Conflicts only occur at the field level not the row level.  So two people can edit the same person's record without any problems.  Conflicts should be rare because your database will be sync'ing very frequently.  If you do encounter frequent conflicts, then you probably need to set some policies about who is responsible for updating what information so that you are not stepping on each other.

  6. Do NOT allow your offline database to go without sync'ing for more than 30 days.  If you do, YOU WILL LOSE ALL CHANGES YOU HAVE MADE LOCALLY.  Offline databases are set to expire after 30 days.  There are no exceptions to this rule.  It is designed this way to minimize enormous complexity that can be created with multiple copies of the database that go out of sync.  If this happens to you, then you can use the Sync Tools to delete your local database and download a fresh copy from our server.
