Guest Giving Module

New customization options - Click Here!

What is it?

The Guest Giving Module allows visitors, or individuals outside of your church to make donations (to any of your funds) without having to set up a new account in your online Portal. As the name implies, it's great for...

  • Non-Member/Regular Attender donations
  • A quick and simple donation process
  • Gifts to a specific fund that often come from outside your congregation. (Ex: mission trip or memorial gift).

Please Note: Guest Giving only allows for instance-by-instance giving. The module does not facilitate pledges or scheduled giving. Those giving functions require an account.

How is it best used?

We would recommend that the Portal remain the primary option on your Giving page. Add a link to a secondary page that displays Guest Giving. This will prevent confusion and keep your members using the Portal, where they can see giving history, set up recurring donations, and other Portal benefits.

How do we set it up?

To use the guest giving module, you must first be set up with a merchant account provider. If you are not set up with a merchant account, please take a look at our information about Elexio's Financial Processing Services.

If you are already setup and accepting donations with your merchant account, adding the Guest Giving module is easy.

Giving with the guest giving module is similar to giving via the Portal. It feeds directly into your database and pulls its fund information from there automatically.

First, you must open Elexio Database, and from the Home Dashboard go to Options > Online Giving and Payments and check the "Enable Guest Giving" checkbox at the bottom left corner of the window.

Next, If you are using an Elexio Website, you can set up the module by adding an HTML block to the page you would like to add the Guest Giving Module to and pasting the code below into it. If you are using another website, you can set up the module by putting the code below onto the page where you want the guest giving module to appear.

The Code:

1. This version will show all the funds that you have marked as “Publish Online” in the Database:

<script src="https://www.elexiopulse.com/portal/loader.aspx/guestgive"></script>

2. You can also modify the snippet to limit the fund options the module displays by adding a “?f={fundid or fundname}” to the end of the URL in the snippet. You can limit to multiple funds by using a comma to separated the fund IDs. You can get the ID of a fund by going to the Administration > Codes screen in the Database and looking in the lower right corner.  Here is an example using IDs (which is the better approach):

<script src="https://www.elexiopulse.com/portal/loader.aspx/guestgive?f=3828,4879"></script>

3. If you don’t want to use IDs, you can use fund names instead. We advise caution when choosing this method, because if you change a fund’s name later in the Database, it will break this guest giving module.  Also, it is necessary to URL escape the fund names:

<script src="https://www.elexiopulse.com/portal/loader.aspx/guestgive?f=Fishers Campus Tithes %26 Offering"></script>

Once you have added the snippet of code, the module will then appear on that page. We recommend adding a clear link on your home page  so that visitors can find the guest giving module easily.

Additional Customization Options:

We've included the ability to make other customizations to Guest Giving, specifically focused on adding specific designations to gifts. This can be particularly helpful for online donations towards Mission Trips or other group fundraising projects.

  • Hide the Comment field: &comment=hidden
  • Require the Comment field: &comment=required
  • Add Text Note: &comment-note=Please specify a missionary
  • Add Drop Down: &sub-options=John Doe, Jane Doe, Bill Thomas
    • separate drop-down options with a comma

(Note: Any text from the Comment or Drop-Down fields will be added to the contribution Comment field in Elexio Database - below).

Comment Field

To employ any of the above, you'll need to modify the Guest Giving embed code. Simply copy the text in bold and add it after the base URL. (The order in which you add options makes no difference).

For example, the below code hides the comment field (red), adds a text note (orange), and adds a drop down (green) where a donor can select the individual they'd like their gift be attributed to.

<script src="https://www.elexiopulse.com/portal/loader.aspx/guestgive?f=Haiti Mission Trip Fund&comment=hidden&comment-note=Please select and individual below&sub-options=John Doe, Jane Doe, Bill Thomas"></script>

Guest Giving with Drop-Down Menu

How do guests use it?

When a visitor to the church decides to give as a guest, they can visit your site, follow your link to the guest giving module and make their donation.

They may also choose to give via your mobile application. The Giving menu item now provides the option to log in or give as a guest. "The Give as a Guest" button will link them to the Giving Module. More information

Once at the module, it's as simple as entering a name, a donation amount, choosing a fund, and giving the card or bank account Info for payment. Four steps - that's all that's needed to make a donation. Adding an email address is optional.

What happens after guests use it?

After an individual has given as a guest, a very limited entry will be made for them in your database. Depending on the information that they gave, their entry will include a name, email address - if provided, giving information, and the Status which will be determined by the default new record status that is selected in Administration > Codes > Status. (This is often set to "Attended 1 Time" or "Visitor".)

The new record will have a Last Updated entry of Guest Giving. A note will also be added to the profile to indicate that the entry was created via Guest Giving.

If the same individual gives as a guest another time, the database will look at their email and/or address info and try to match them to the entry that was created the first time. As long as they give enough of the same information, their new donation record will be added to their existing database entry.

If email or address cannot be matched (different, not given), a new entry in the database will be created. We advise you to be diligent to ensure that you are merging duplicates.

Some reports you can use to identify these new entries:

FCR3101 - Field Chooser: Last Updated By;  Report Filter: Last Updated By Equals Guest Giving

FCR3501 - Quick Filter: Note Type = WebUpdate;  Report Filter: Notes contains Guest Giving

Profile Validation Smart Part

You can also use the "Unconfirmed Profiles to Validate" Smart Part to quickly see and change data about any new user (not only those added via Guest Giving). Once you have changed the appropriate information such as Status, click "Validate" to confirm. The next time you load the Home Dashboard, the validated user entry will no longer appear in the box. If you need to make further changes after validation, you can make them on the user's entry on the People General screen.

*The Home screen Smart Part is the place you will manage all new Guest Giving profiles. Before validating please verify the information displayed.

Please Note: Because an email address is needed to access the software, if a donor did not provide an email address, you will not be able to assign them a security role.
