Check Reader

Our check readers can reduce your data entry time for contributions by as much as 50% every week!

When you insert checks into the reader, Elexio Database will attempt to automatically find the donor associated with the account number on the check. If a match is found, it will bring up the contributor's name on screen and automatically insert the amount of their last gift.  All you have to do is verify the amount given and press enter! If no match was found then, just select who to associate with the scanned checking account.  The more accounts you link, the faster data entry will be every week after.

Scanning the check and retrieving a match from the database only takes a second or two. This is the fastest and most accurate way to enter contributions. Account numbers are encrypted for ultimate security. The scanner also makes a photo copy of the check and stores it in the database! So if there is ever any question about a check you'll be able to produce a copy of the actual check!

We currently sell the Magtek ImageSafe reader and the Canon CR-50. These are the only check readers that we sell and support.

The price of the MagTek scanner is $400 (free shipping!) plus a one-time $300 support/maintenance fee. The Canon CR-50 Batch Check Reader is $600 plus the one-time $300 support/maintenance fee.

If you already have either of these scanners, you still need to pay the $300 support fee because readers can dramatically increase database size and use more bandwidth.

Contact Elexio to order now.

Mac Users: Please note that these check readers are not compatible with RDC (Remote Desktop Connection) or Parallels. If you are running Database in either RDC or Parallels, you WILL NOT be able to use a check reader to add donations.

Installation Guide

To install your check reader, please follow these instructions carefully:

Install the driver for the check reader. Download it from this link:

Once the download is complete, run it.  When this is finished, plug in the check reader.  You will need to plug in two cords:

  1. Plug the power cord to an electrical outlet.
  2. Plug the USB cable to your computer.
  3. Windows will automatically detect the check reader and finish installing it. You should get a message that says your new hardware device is ready to use.
  4. Now you can login to Elexio Database. Once you have opened Elexio Database, Click on the link on the Home Page at the top left under Quick Links to Enter Contributions.
  5. From the Data Entry tab, click Setup Check Reader.  Database will attempt to establish a connection to the check reader. If it is unsuccessful, you may need to setup the check reader manually.

To setup the check reader manually (Example - MDX) :

1.  You’ll see this screen where you should select MagTek Excella STX-MDX on the left and then select Excella MDX.MDX001 in the second box called Device Name.

2.  Click the Test button to see if your computer recognizes the scanner.  You can feed a check through the scanner and you should see an image of the check.

Your check reader should be working properly now and you can close this screen and you are ready to scan your first real check. If not, please contact technical support at support@elexio.com or 717-689-8000 ext 2.
