Email Domain Settings


Please exercise extreme caution when configuring your domain records. Incorrect records will cause mail to not be delivered, and modifying the wrong records can cause your website to become inaccessible. If you aren't sure if we manage your domain or not, is a great tool to better understand your domain's settings in one place. If you see "" and "" there, we can manage the switch. If it does not, you will need to work with your current registrar to make the required changes.


How to Take your Rackspace Email Live

To take your email with Rackspace live, you'll need to delete any existing MX (Mail Exchange) records and add the two below.

Customize the URL where you access your Webmail

We recommend customizing the URL where you access your email online. (Ex: if your domain name is, This will allow your users to have an easy to remember URL to access their email.

First, you'll need to locate the URL where you currently can access webmail. That can be found in your Rackspace Control Panel (

  • In the Rackspace Control Panel, click on Webmail Sites in the main menu. 
  • On the screen that loads, you'll see the URL where you can access your email on the web. It should look something like " (see screenshot below). Copy this URL.

Once you've copied the URL where you access your email on the web, create a CNAME record in your Domain Name Settings (DNS) that points to that url. We recommend a hostname of webmail. (See the example below).

NOTE: When users configure their email clients (Outlook, iPhone, etc.) with their Rackspace email, they should not use the CNAME record you have created. Correct setup instructions can be found in Rackspace's Email Set Up Wizards.
