Setting up Online Giving in Website

Is my online giving secure?

Yes. Every transaction is encrypted with Secure Sockets Layer (SSL), the same industry-standard encryption trusted for online commerce with world-class financial organizations. When donors give via a credit/debit card their transactions are secured via the same fraud protection as when you purchase something.

Elexio Website (HigherGiving & SmoothEvents)

What are the merchant account requirements and how do I get one?

If you live in the United States, Elexio can provide merchant account services. If you live outside the US, keep in mind that merchant accounts must be one of the listed providers (Authorize.net, Nova, Concord/First Data, Paypal Pro or Vanco) and must be valid for e-commerce. If you don't have a merchant account, you will need to contact one of the listed providers:

What if we have a merchant account with a provider that is not listed?

Many providers will work with authorize.net. If you already have a merchant account, check with the provider to see if they can connect with authorize.net and also check that your agreement covers e-commerce. Then you can get an authorize.net account that will link your existing merchant account to your online giving software.

Is there a limit to the number of categories/designations that can be setup and a giver can donate to?

No! You can set as many funds (ex: building fund, missions, outreach) as you want. Also, each contributor can split their gift into as many categories/designations as they wish.

How do we handle mistaken transactions or donors that want their money back?

Of course your church should establish some policies about how to handle these kind of situations, but from a technical standpoint you can issue refunds using the web interface that your merchant account provides.

How much does online giving cost?

Elexio FPS - Check out our FPS rates page for more info (requires login first).

Other Merchant Accounts - Standard rates will apply according to your agreement with your merchant account. They are often 2.75% or higher.

Elexio waives the $.25 transaction fee per donation for FPS clients. Non-FPS clients must pay this fee. This charge will automatically be added to your monthly invoice.

Here's a Sample FAQ You Can Publish for Your Donors

Why would I want to give online?

Security and convenience make online transactions an increasingly popular means of donating to an organization. Plus, your ministry enjoys administrative savings (manual check processing and record keeping add up in a hurry). You also can take advantage of the discipline that recurring donations can provide for your giving.

How do I get started giving online?

  1. Log in to http://ourchurch.elexioPortal.com [Replace "ourchurch" with the real portal name for your church.]
  2. Select My Giving. In this area you can
    • Make a new donation
    • Setup a recurring donation (and manage existing recurring donations)
    • View your Giving History

Is my online giving secure?

Yes. Every transaction is encrypted with Secure Sockets Layer (SSL), the same industry-standard encryption trusted for online commerce with world-class financial organizations.

When will the transaction go on my account?

You set the date when you want your card charged and this will be the date of contribution in our system. For eChecks, the payment will hit your bank 2 banking days later, so a Monday contribution date will hit Wednesday, while a Thursday contribution date will hit on Monday because of the weekend.

Can I use an e-check for my donation?

Yes! If you are using Elexio Financial Processing Services or have and account with Vanco, you can.

Can I give as little or as much as I want?

Donations must be a minimum of $5.00 and there are no limitations on the maximum amount.

What if I make a mistake and need to have a completed transaction reversed?

Contact the church office immediately so your situation can be handled appropriately.

SmoothEvents

Although SmoothEvents can use the same merchant account provider that you use for Elexio Website/HigherGiving, it is created for payments and not donations. Please consider tax issues carefully.
