Help! My video won't play!

Video loading issues can be multifaceted. Below are things you can check to help get your video playing.

  1. Is your video file in the correct format?
    • If you're using MediaRush or the Elexio Website video block, your video must be in MP4 format, we recommend that you use the H.264 codec for best results.

    • If you're using the Elexio Website video block, we recommend uploading your video to either vimeo.com or youtube.com. These services take care of video conversion for you as well as create several different versions of your video in the background. When played, they'll load the best version of your video for the device a viewer is using (desktop/tablet/pc). See Media Center Block for more.
  2. Is your video file too large? (If the file-size of your video is too large, it may result in slow loading times).
    • We recommend about 5MB per minute of video. (Ex: if your video is 30 minutes long, a good file-size would be around 150MB).
    • To reduce your file-size, in your video editing software, you can try...
      • Reduce the video dimensions. For example, a high-definition 1080p (1920x1080) video file may be too large for many of your site visitors to view quickly. Try reducing it to a smaller size. We often recommend 640x480 or 640x360.
      • Reduce frame-rate.
      • Other settings: Most all video editing software packages provide a variety of compression settings. It may take a little trial and error, but consult the help material for your specific product and try a few different compression settings.

  3. If you're using an MP4 format, is your video set to progressive download? (If not, the entire video will need to load before it will begin to play).
    • Check if your video editing software includes a progressive download setting for MP4 and make sure to select it when you produce your video.

  4. What video editing software should I use?
    • There are many great video editing software solutions available. While we cannot recommend any specific video editing software, we can tell you that there are multiple free tools on the web that you can use.
